While we recognize that summer is vacation time, the full-scale musical productions that WSYT performs require many hours of rehearsal, not only on an individual basis, but as a group. In order for the cast to work effectively together----and for the WSYT staff to manage rehearsals as efficiently as possible----all the members of the team must be in attendance during our critical rehearsal period, beginning with the week following our Sharing Night and ending with the final production. Therefore, if you are going to participate in WSYT, we request that you make a commitment to us during this time and try to manage your vacation time accordingly.

Participants are allowed SIX absences during the twelve-week program. Vacation dates are limited in August, since attendance is mandatory during the last three weeks of the program. These dates will be clearly indicated each season on the Important Dates page and in all informational material. Notification to the Program Directors (in writing) is required for any date that the participant will not be at WSYT.

  • Unexcused absences or violations of the vacation policy may result in the participant being removed from a number, scene, or role.
  • Obviously, family emergencies and illnesses may occur, and if we are notified by a parent in writing, these will be an acceptable reason for absence, but otherwise, casting and participation in the final production will be affected by your attendance.
  • If you will be arranging vacation time after mid-August, we ask that you reconsider your enrollment in our program. Because space is limited, the spot you take may be better used by another young person who will be more able to make the commitment work with their schedule.
